award winning road safety
In 2008 the Department for Transport commissioned four Beacon Road Safety Local Authorities to deliver innovative, evidence led projects to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in rural roads in the United Kingdom. The challenge was to bring together multiple organisations into efficient and professional partnerships to deliver measurable and cost-effective improvements.
Appointed by one of the authorities, Devon County Council, Project Management services were provided which resulted in the achievement of a Prince Michael of Kent International Award for Road Safety for the significant reduction in casualties and efficiency savings of over £4million. Management also included responsibility for project reporting to government Ministerial level, fostering and sustaining public sector partnerships with the Police, Fire & Rescue Service and local authorities, and the co-ordination of findings from all four participating Beacon authorities to produce the final recommendations paper.
